    Janet Borland

    Born and raised in San Francisco, Janet has always had a passion for recruitment, with 30 years in the human resources industry. She has much experience working with several Tribal Casinos since 2005. She worked at Pala Resort & Casino for two years, and Pechanga Resort and Casino for 15 years. She began her HR career in the file room and with much dedication and drive over the years, worked her way up to a Director of Talent Management. She attended San Francisco State and received her master’s Certification in HR from Cornell University.

    Committed to always learning and improving, she is certified with Tribal Human Resource Professional (THRP), Certified Talent Acquisition Specialist (TAS), Certified Staffing Professional (CSP), Analytics for Talent Management (ATM), Digital Social Media Certified (DSMC), and Certified Social Sourcing Recruiter (CSSR). Janet was elected as a NNAHRA Board Member in 2019 and became a staff team member April 2021. Janet is always excited to work with all the tribes in our Nation, and her mission is to help others in HR across the map.

    Azadeh Tavakoli

    Azadeh Tavakoli is Meskwaki (Sac & Fox Tribe of the Mississippi in Iowa) and Iranian and brings nearly two decades of experience in human resources across Tribal and medical organizations. She currently serves as the Director of Development for the NNAHRA Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and advancing Tribal human resources professionals nationwide.

    Azadeh holds a bachelor's degree in political science from Illinois State University and is certified as a Tribal Human Resources Professional (THRP) and a Certified Professional by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM-CP).

    Since 2015, Azadeh has served on the NNAHRA board in various capacities, contributing to the organization's mission of strengthening Tribal HR through education, advocacy, and collaboration. In her current role, she is focused on building partnerships, securing resources, and expanding the foundation’s reach to empower HR professionals serving Tribal communities.

    Passionate about equity, sovereignty, and leadership development, Azadeh is committed to creating pathways for future generations of Indigenous HR leaders.

Her educational achievements and hands-on experience managing communication channels and streamlining the planning process make her an expert in project management, team building, and data analysis.

    Suzanne Clem

    Suzanne Clem currently serves as the Membership Engagement Administrator for the National Native American Human Resources Association (NNAHRA). In this role, she continues her long-standing commitment to supporting and connecting HR professionals across Indian Country, fostering collaboration, education, and engagement among NNAHRA’s growing membership.

    Suzanne brings over two decades of human resources experience to NNAHRA. Before stepping into her current position, she served as the Human Resources Director at Wildhorse Resort and Casino (WRC), owned by the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation. Since joining WRC in 2001 as the Manager of Training and Employee Development and later as the Director of Human Resources, Suzanne has led initiatives that strengthened employee engagement, leadership development, and organizational success.

    Her journey with NNAHRA began in 2006 as a conference speaker, and in 2008, she was elected to the board of directors where she remained on the board until joining the staff in her current role in 2026. Throughout her tenure, she has been instrumental in helping the organization quadruple its membership, revenue, and outreach, while playing a key role in developing the Tribal Human Resource Professional (THRP) certification program and expanding conference offerings.

    Suzanne believes strongly that human resources is one of the greatest tools in protecting and advancing tribal sovereignty. She takes pride in being part of NNAHRA’s mission to educate, support, and empower HR professionals across Indian Country.
