JOB SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the COO/ Board of Directors, the Controller is responsible for directing the organization’s accounting functions. These functions include but are not limited to establishing and maintaining the organization’s accounting principles, practices, procedures, and initiatives. Prepares financial reports and presents findings and recommendations to top management and additional duties as assigned.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Primarily responsible for the timely and accurate generation of all financial information for the organization, including but not limited to daily, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual information.
  • Prepares accurate monthly closing and generates the financial statements in a timely manner.
  • Compiles and completes all reporting requirements to Tribal, State and Federal agencies.
  • Establishes and maintains the organization’s accounting principles and procedures.
  • Safeguards DCR assets.
  • Ensures compliance with internal controls as required by Tribal, State and Federal agencies.
  • Ensures accurate tracking and reporting of production costs, inventory valuation and cost analysis for Ohosa and Bellacana.
  • Develops and maintains additional necessary internal controls.
  • Prepares all audits and compliance reports and coordinates with Tribal, State and Federal agencies.
  • Provides guidance to operating divisions regarding the application of accounting policies.
  • Assigns, coordinates, schedules and reviews the work of accounting and finance staff.
  • Coordinates annual financial audits with outside auditors.
  • Prepares financial studies, proformas and analysis of existing and proposed business.
  • Interprets financial statements to produce comparisons to industry trends.
  • Makes recommendations on suggested improvements in financial operations compared to industry-wide trends.
  • Prepares short and long-range business assumptions and financial projections on special projects.
  • Prepares operating and capital budgets for DCR & DCBA Operations.
  • Assists with the assessment of economic impact of proposed transactions.
  • Observes competitive operations and prepares financial comparisons for DCR & DCBA existing or proposed operations.
  • Assists operational management with financial reports or analysis and makes presentations before Tribal Council, departments and committees as requested.
  • Participates in various projects designed to improve the effectiveness of the finance department operation as well as its contribution to the overall success of the organization.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum ten years total accounting experience; four years of experience required at the management level as Controller performing duties similar to those listed above.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.
  • Knowledge of accounting rules, procedures and regulations required.
  • Must be able to work harmoniously with all others.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills.
  • Must have excellent computer skills.
  • Must present a cheerful and friendly personality and a well-groomed appearance at all times.
  • Must have experience in dealing with government contracts and tracking accounts receivable.
  • Must be able to maintain a high degree of confidentiality with respect to all matters pertaining to the gaming enterprise business.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Accounting is required; a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in business or related field is highly desired.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand. Excellent oral and written communication skills are important to the successful conduct of this position. Ability to write accurate, grammatically correct, polished reports and business correspondence.
  • Must be able to speak with the public in a professional manner. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Ability to apply regulatory and procedure doctrine, concepts and policy to practical situations.
  • CPA license desired. Must possess the ability to obtain a current valid California driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
