JOB SUMMARY:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Supervises the prosecution of adult criminal cases under the Gila River Indian Community Code. Supervises, prioritizes, and evaluates the work of professional staff as well as provides leadership and direction. Plans, organizes, directs and implements prosecution activities as well as administrative functions of the Office of the Prosecutor. Prepares standards and procedures for and coordinates the work of professional and administrative support staff.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The Chief Prosecutor provides leadership to the Office of the Prosecutor at the Gila River Indian Community. This position is expected to have outstanding criminal prosecution skills as well as abilities in legal office management and administration in leading a ten-attorney office with responsibilities under the Gila River Indian Community Code in adult criminal prosecution. This is a term contract position.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduate from an accredited law school with a juris doctor degree; member of the State Bar of Arizona or able to become admitted in Arizona through reciprocity (subject to a conditional hire). Minimum of eight years as a licensed attorney, including at least four years of experience in prosecuting felony-level criminal cases with some experience in federal Indian law and three years in managing and supervising a law office.
